SEAL DISCREPANCIES - Georgetown, GUYANA
We would like to bring your attention on SEAL DISCREPANCIES in GYGEO - Georgetown GUYANA
The most common errors are omission of the seal prefix (A-Z) and the zeros “0” at the beginning of the seal.
Every character/number, even zeros “0” at the beginning of a seal number, need to be manifested.
If there are three seals, all must be manifested as well.
CMA CGM would like to remind that this issue is affecting customers tremendously as the seal information has to be rectified with the customs. Special attention needs to be given to consignments that encounter this issue and below procedure must be applied for each case:
- After the vessel has discharged and seal discrepancies has been detected by JFL, a report has to be prepared.
- This report has to be signed by the chief officer on the vessel.
- Discrepancy letters are then prepared to be approved by customs
- Once approved, they have to book with Drugs Enforcement Unit (DEU) & Goods Examination Unit(GEU) to undergo a 100% examination (Consignee incur additional and unnecessary charges).
Average time taken: This process takes approximately one week or more depending on when DEU is available to examine the container.
